The Henri Lloyd J/22 World Championship hit The Netherlands from June 30-July 3.  Only one race was missed (on the last day because of light winds).  It was a beautiful 13-race series with a happy champion--Nic Bol and his crew Dennis Goethals, Janneke Hin and Marije Kampen.  Three countries were represented (Netherlands, France and Germany), and 38 boats competed.  For complete results and more information, visit www.j22.nl/worlds.

The San Francisco Yacht Club has chosen the J/22 as the club's new platform for match and team racing.  USWatercraft will build a fleet of 10 new boats to be delivered this year.  These evenly matched boats will provide the SFYC the perfect platform to run great match racing and team sailing events.  The J/22 has become the preferred match racing boat for major events around the country.  The Santa Maria Cup, Ira Ross Match Race, Richardson Cup and many others are sailed in the J/22.  Sailors love them because they reward skill and technique over brute strength.  The J/22 doesn't really have any quirky habits, so a good sailor can get up to speed in the boat quickly.  Regatta organizers and club fleet managers love the boat because it is rugged enough to take a beating and it's designed for ease of maintenance.

Who today would think it daring that female athletes should be mainstreamed into big-boat sailing?  That was the general attitude in 1985 until US Sailing and Rolex collaborated to create the Rolex International Women's Keelboat Championship.  Twenty-five years later "The Rolex Women's" - as competitors fondly call it - stands as a testament to the huge strides made in women's sailing.  This biennial event regularly attracts both the Who's Who and the up-and-coming of women's sailing.  The 14th running is scheduled for August 29-September 1, 2011 at the Rochester Yacht Club (Rochester, NY), and utilizes again the J/22!  The Notice of Race and other information are available at http://www.riwkc.ussailing.org.
